The Glass Test
You can check a rash to see if it is septicaemia by carrying out the 'glass test':
- Press the side of a glass firmly against the rash.
- If the rash fades and loses colour under pressure it is not a meningitis rash.
- If it does not change colour, you should contact a doctor immediately.
Both meningitis and septicaemia are very serious and must be treated immediately.
Septicaemia occurs less frequently but is more likely to lead to death.
